Plocher received a Notice to Proceed in late summer for the construction of a coal combustion residue (CCR) material handling and effluent limitation guidelines (ELG) wastewater treatment project at Sioux Energy Center. The scope of work covers three different projects at the Ameren Portage Des Sioux Power Generation Facility: Dry Ash Conversion (DAC), Bottom Ash Conversion (BAC), and a new wastewater treatment facility. The DAC portion of the project will consist of a new economizer ash handling system, two new steel dry ash storage silos with associated process equipment, and upgrades to the plant’s dry ash transport systems. BAC includes a new remote submerged flight drag chain conveyor with associated equipment, and upgrades to the plant’s bottom ash transport system. Lastly, the low volume wastewater treatment facility involves a series of mixing and settling basins, the associated chemical treatment systems, and pumping/water transport systems. The project will span over a 24 month period and includes over 100,000 man-hours of labor. This will be Plocher’s 3rd ELG project for Ameren.
